The diaphragm is a mechanical contraceptive – a soft silicone dome that sits on the cervix and prevents sperm from passing through. It is inserted into the vagina before intercourse and left in place for several hours afterward.
This is a hormone-free method that does not affect menstruation or breastfeeding, and is especially suitable for women who prefer complete control over their bodies, want to avoid medications or devices, or are looking for a natural and gentle method of family planning.
Why is it important to customize with professional guidance?
Just as no two women are the same, the diaphragm should be tailored to your individual body. Size, vaginal structure, cervical position, and personal preferences all affect proper fit and comfort of use.
During the fitting process, I check with you the exact size that suits you, teach you how to use it correctly and comfortably, and we practice inserting and removing the diaphragm together, until you feel confident and comfortable.
A professional fitting increases contraceptive effectiveness, prevents discomfort, and allows you to use the diaphragm with confidence and peace of mind.
How does the fitting process work at my clinic?
The process includes two meetings:
If necessary, I am also available afterwards for consultation, additional conversation, or support down the road.
At the first meeting
We will get to know your body, talk about preferences, feelings, questions, and sensitivities, and perform a gentle physical examination to determine the appropriate size and make an actual fit. We will learn together how to insert and remove the diaphragm correctly, and check that it sits comfortably and effectively in place.
1
At the second meeting
You will arrive after you have practiced with the diaphragm at home and gradually become accustomed to it for at least 8 hours. You will arrive with the diaphragm inside the vagina for at least two hours, and together we will make sure that you are suitable and that the solution is right for you. We will then order the diaphragm and the appropriate gel for you. I keep different sizes of gel diaphragms in my clinic and a gift bag to hold everything so that you will usually receive everything immediately after the second session, including tips and explanations on WhatsApp.

Combination with natural approaches to family planning
Many of the women I counsel choose to use a diaphragm as part of a broader body awareness approach – such as the Fertility Awareness Method (FAM), using ovulation tracking apps, or principles of natural family planning.
I believe that sexual health and reproduction should not be based solely on prevention – but on listening to the body, strengthening the intimate connection, and becoming familiar with the female cycle.
If this interests you, I would be happy to incorporate additional tools and knowledge into the matching process.
A sensitive response to religious women – halachic aspects and tailored guidelines
As a woman who grew up in a diverse community and someone who also accompanies religious women, I am well aware of the halachic aspects surrounding family planning.
Using a diaphragm can be a gentle and respectful solution –
It does not affect bleeding, does not create abnormal discharge, and does not interfere with maintaining purity.
In many cases, rabbis and purity counselors recommend a diaphragm as a preferable option for women who are interested in contraception for medical, emotional, or family reasons.
If it is important to you to check your suitability for observing Halacha – I am here to listen, respect, and adapt the process to your personal needs.
I can refer you to sources of information and rabbis who will give you an answer.
Frequently Asked Questions About Diaphragms
Is the diaphragm safe to use?
Yes, when fitted and placed correctly, it is a safe and reliable contraceptive, especially when combined with spermicidal gel. The prevention rates when used correctly are 92-96%.
Can it be used immediately after birth?
It is advisable to wait a few weeks after giving birth to allow the body to recover. You can start adjusting towards the end of the postpartum period, depending on how you feel.
Do you feel your diaphragm during intercourse?
In most cases, it is not felt at all. If there is discomfort, you may need to recheck the fit or make sure it is placed correctly.
Is it suitable for everyone?
Most women can use a diaphragm, but there are certain medical conditions in which it may not be suitable – and we will examine these together during the fitting process. Sometimes the pelvic floor needs to be strengthened and only then will it be suitable.
